2013 Nissan Altima Selected as a Top Vehicle for Commuters by AAA Auto Buying Experts

Sedan's signature innovations, including backup camera and blind spot warning system makes Nissan's best-selling vehicle a well-equipped choice for motorists

Earlier today, AAA announced the 2013 Nissan Altima has been honored as one of the 11 vehicles selected to the AAA "Top Vehicles for Commuters" list. Adding to its already impressive list of awards received this year, the Altima was one of five sedans chosen based on fuel efficiency, comfort and performance.

According to AAA, the redesigned Altima "Continues to be a top choice for commuting. It is comfortable for all passengers, performs well and offers several unique safety features."
Each year, AAA Auto Buying experts test drive and evaluate hundreds of vehicles to reveal the year's top vehicles. Compact vehicles, sedans, crossovers and minivans were all considered for this year's honor.

Al Castignetti, vice president, Nissan Division, said: "In the 20 years since its introduction to the market, we have sought to make the Nissan Altima one of the elite sedans of its class. This honor from AAA solidifies Altima's place as one of the top selling midsize sedans in the United States and a leading contender in the category."

Among the 2013 Altima's many attributes are a best-in-segment fuel economy of 38 mpg highway* (2.5-liter engine), new premium exterior styling with a strong presence and excellent aerodynamics, an upscale interior with premium materials, and an outstanding balance of ride comfort, stability and a fun-to-drive demeanor.

Building on Nissan's "Innovation that Excites" philosophy, the fifth-generation Altima also offers standard Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System and Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®. Also available are NissanConnectSM and NissanConnectSM Navigation with a suite of Bluetooth® phone connectivity features including hands-free text message integration, Pandora® playback, real-time Google® POI search and more; along with Easy Fill Tire Alert and next-generation Safety Shield Technologies; including Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Moving Object Detection (MOD) systems.

Dynamic performance is provided by a choice of a redesigned 182-horsepower 2.5-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine or a proven 270-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, with both engines matched with standard Xtronic CVT® (Continuously Variable Transmission). Altima's next-generation CVT reflects Nissan's more than 20 years of engineering and development leadership with its smooth, fuel-efficient design. Altima's redesigned 4-wheel independent suspension features segment-first Active Understeer Control for refined feel and responsive handling.

The premium interior design looks and feels a class above, with new NASA-inspired "zero-gravity" front seats, available leather appointments, and a new standard Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display in the center of the instrument cluster that integrates key information – including available navigation, text messaging notification and audio data – right in front of the driver.

*Fuel economy comparison against internal combustion gasoline engine-equipped mid-size sedans. Excludes hybrid and diesel models.

Your Monday Maintenance Tip: Protecting your car's interior from sun damage

The effect of ultraviolet rays and heat can quickly destroy the cloth, leather and vinyl inside your car. While there is not singular remedy to protect a vehicle from the sun, we suggest the following measures to help keep your car's interior looking its best.
  • Use a windshield sunshade to protect your interior against the fading of cloth and drying of leather and vinyl.
  • Window tinting minimizes damaging effects of the sun.
  • For extra protection, apply vinyl and leather protectant at regular intervals.

Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors Unveil Exterior Design of Jointly Developed New Minicars for Japan

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced the model names and showed the exterior designs of their jointly-developed new minicars for the Japanese market. Sales of the new minicars will begin in June 2013 under the Nissan DAYZ and DAYZ Highway STAR, and the Mitsubishi eK Wagon and eK Custom, model names.

The product planning and development of the new models was conducted by NMKV Co., Ltd., a joint venture formed by Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors to develop minicars for the Japanese market. Uniting the strengths of Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors in functional areas such as product planning, development, design and purchasing, the new models offer highly competitive attributes such as excellent fuel economy and a comfortable, roomy cabin. Collaboration in NMKV from the product planning phase onward enabled Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors to retain their separate brand identities, yet create innovative and quite different designs for their respective minicar models. This has never been achieved before in mini-vehicles that have been produced under previous OEM vehicle supply agreements.

Nissan's new models were named DAYZ, where the standard "S" was reversed to become a "Z", to indicate a new way of looking at delivering value to owners as they go about their normal days. The goal is to change standard "everyday" activities into days with added delight by owning one of these cars. The DAYZ and DAYZ Highway STAR are all-new minicars offering dynamic design and quality interior space, expressing unique Nissan traits that break the mold of what conventional minicars can offer. This was made possible thanks to it being the first case where Nissan participated in the development of its minicars from the onset of the product planning, development and design phases.

NMKV's joint project to develop minicars for the Japanese market is part of an agreement to expand the scope of cooperation between Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors that the two companies announced in December 2010. Both companies will continue to maximize the synergies generated through NMKV to strengthen the competitiveness of their respective minicar business. Following this first wave of minicar models, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors are working on the planning and development of a second new minicar, a "super height" (tall) wagon, which is slated for launch in early 2014.

Through NMKV, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors will continuously strengthen their highly competitive minicar lineups, reflecting the strengths of both companies in the areas of product planning, development, design and purchasing.

Your Monday Maintenance Tip: Refill the antifreeze

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQTSUdbymQh1yCVo1I9iTYfZj5rgNsy4WY0s0bU0GJ_pSDzBhsvMQ

Antifreeze keeps engine temperatures stable in all climate extremes and driving conditions. Always be sure you have the right level of antifreeze because fooling around with the cooling of your car’s complex mechanical parts is an unnecessary risk. Invest a few dollars in a bottle and keep it handy in your trunk. Antifreeze should be added when the engine is cool. Use a funnel as you would when adding motor oil to avoid splashing this greenish, toxic chemical on other parts of the car.

Overall Score: 5
Eric helped us purchase two new cars: Nissan 370Z Nismo and 2013 Nissan Altima. We had a much happier experience at this dealership than the dealership in Rio Rancho. We were able to approach Eric with any concerns and he was able to take care of them in a timely manner and because of Eric, our family will come back here for future purchases.

I took my 2013 Cube in for work on the built-in microphone. My car was assigned to Chris Del Frate, one of the service managers at Melloy. Chris was absolutely amazing and did everything he could to make the experience as pain-free as possible. I live 3 hours from Albuquerque and only come into town infrequently. Chris worked with me to schedule me in on the one day I would be there and made sure the car was available for pick up when I came from the airport, even though it was hours after their offices had closed. Wow. This was truly a unique experience when it comes to customer service of any kind. I love, love, love my Nissan Cube, and I couldn't be more thrilled to have a dealership which employs people like Chris to take care of their customers.

Your Monday Maintenance Tip: Go for the shade

 https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ_mVi-7TsxlvegEa_vrOcLw4nKQUNoUmAAurPd7XQVEWeAyAefkQ

The hot summer sun that makes the inside of your car feel like a sauna also zaps fuel from your gas tank. If you let your car bake in the sun there's going to be a greater amount of evaporative emissions that take place than if you park in the shade. So park your car in the shade of a building or tree whenever possible. And buy a good windshield shade. A windshield shade blocks sunlight and helps to keep heat out of the inside of your car.
